Questions from a newbee
Just purchased a 98 TJ, soft top, 6 cyl manual. Need a couple questions
answered. First & foremost, I've noticed that the gas gauge tends to drop considerably when the tank is full & especially when the tank is near empty. It rapidly drops from 1/4 to E in the matter of minutes. Is this common with the TJ's? Can this be corrected? I'm wondering how much I can ride on when it drops that fast. There has to be "something" in the tank. There are also times when I start the Jeep up & the gauge doesn't move. I have to shut down & restart for it to get it to work. Is this common? Second, while washing the car, is there anything I need to be aware of? In other words, what do I NOT USE on the soft top. It's black & I don't want to to fade or become discolored in anyway. Do I handle the windows differently? I was told just soap & water was good but I want to make sure. Finally, can anyone hook me up with a link or two with Wrangler FAQ's? Thanks in advance. ------------- G-Hound "There are two theories to arguing with women. Neither one works." |
Re: Questions from a newbee
Thats only good however until you modify it. Then plan on only 175-200. <g> Its a
Jeep thing... Sounds like a bad sending unit...however...here is the deal, a whole lot of people got them replaced...and they were worse than before. You take your chances when replacing it. Do not use anything but cloth towels on your soft top windows. Any sort of paper product will scratch them. Formula 303 is good, has UV protectant too. Meguires, and many other brands make good car wash "soaps", and other cleaners and polish, etc. On Tue, 1 Jul 2003 19:09:54 -0700, "Jeff Strickland" <crwlr@yahoo.com> wrote: >>If you plan on 250 miles per tank full, you will never walk. >> >>Do not use diswashing soap, the detergent is harmful. Re: Questions from a newbee
Depends on tank size Jeff =)
I have the 19gal and fill up right around there, so not sure about a smaller one. I've noticed similar with my '99 TJ's gas gauge. Goes pretty quick thru the first quarter tank, and flat out hauls ass through the last quarter, so I guess that's 'normal'. However, even when I'm convinced I'm on fumes and about to run out of gas, the tank only takes 16-17 gals, so I still had 2 or 3 gallons left. Not sure about the gauge not moving at all... never had that one. Not sure about washing either hehehe. I found an awesome FAQ once maintained on a personal site, but I can't find it now. Spend some time searching on 'Jeep FAQ' on google.com and I bet you'll stumble across it. Re: Questions from a newbee
Dave - mine is just the other way...hauls ass thru the first 1/4 and takes more time
for the rest. Even when I am down past the red, mine never takes 19 gallons, but, then again, as bashed in as my tank is, I think it only holds 17-18 something these days. Aw, next time you empty your tank, just toss a lit match in there. That
should get rid of all of your tank dents. :) {Legal Disclaimer: This is a joke, don't actually try it.} jbjeep wrote: > Dave - mine is just the other way...hauls ass thru the first 1/4 and takes more time > for the rest. Re: Questions from a newbee
Yea, but the question is how well would the Kilby hold up? lol.
Shop already told me that within a few years I will probably have to replace the stock tank - it was damaged that bad.
