I don't know if it still is but it used to be illegal to buy and use a
23 channel radio. You could use them if you had them but you couldn't
sell them for use. The FCC does not enforce this of course but it's on
the books. Or was.

Many of these old CBs were splatter-monsters. Putting one on the air
without testing it with a IFR or Motorola service monitor or a real
(HP) spec an is pretty ignorant. The Sencore or BK CB test boxes the
truck stop "CB shops" use are utterly worthless. I think the FCC
should use the fines for Janet "All About The Kickstand" Jackson's
---- and Howard Stern's "indecent" speech (that Oprah eclipses
routinely) and mandate technical enforcement-a FCC GROL to work on or
professionally install CB, and a proper test bench in licensed shops.
Including a in-cal frequency standard and a spectrum analyzer or CSM.
Of course most of the truck stop shitholes would go out of
business....

Hi Mike,
We used to tell the kids on their Christmas walkie talkies that
they could transmit much further if they bent their antenna in a loop.
After I built a five channel Knight kit, I bought Radio Shack's
first crystal synthesizer: http://www.----------.com/cbRadio.jpg And of
course got the FCC license of KQX4357
