OT: Typing without my pointer finger..

I didn't mention this before, but I've given up truck driving in favor of
carpentry. I've got a decent gig working for a guy who works for himself as
a general contractor. Right now we're building a new home for a client.

I was nailing a doubler plate to the top of a stud wall before tilting it up
into place when at about 11am when a 3.5" 16 penny nail didn't hit it's
intended trajectory, instead going right through my left pointer finger.
Right between the middle and last (tip) joint, about an inch and a half from
the tip, catching approximately 1/4" of meat. It went right through the
meat, skimming the bone. It was actually kindof cool. Luckily, it pointed up
and didn't go thru into my middle finger.

Al (my boss, and the only other person generally at the job site) wasn't
there, so I pulled the nail out with my other hand. Al said he'd be there in
about 45 minutes and to sit tight. Well, I wasn't about to let 45 good
minutes go to waste.

I didn't have a first aid kit or anything so I just rinsed it off with water
and let it bleed while I worked. My finger was very caked with blood. As for
the walls I built during that time, suffice it to say that my work is so
sufficently marked with my DNA that scientists will be able to clone me from
it in 100 years.

When Al got back, we cleaned it up (entrance and exit wound) with medical
cleaning pad, and wrapped it up with gauze and tape. This definately made
the last 4 hours of the day more interesting than normal. Tomorrow, I'm sure
I'll bang my poor finger with a hammer.

Definately didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would.

Hope you had a good laugh (or at least a fgood cringe!) from this!

Carl

Ditto. If you haven't had a tetanus booster in the last few years or so, I'd
recommend it now.
