OT - Riding lawn tractor help - please!
A little off topic mechanical help is needed.
I have a mid 1970s Toro/Wheel Horse riding lawn tractor. I started it the other day and everything was normal but when I turned the ignition to the off position the engine stopped running but there was a really loud hum coming from the starter. I had to disconnect the battery to make it stop. I haven't reconnected the battery since for fear of blowing some electrical parts. Any advice from the mechanical gurus here would be greatly appreciated. If anyone can recommend what to repair or replace I'm sure Bill can provide a link to parts diagrams and numbers for every tractor ever made. Thanks in advance. Skye |

Hi Skye,
Sounds like the starter is still engaged, the ignition switch could be sticking in the starting position, or the solenoid has an internal short and will not release, it'll look just like the Ford's on the fender where the positive battery cable connects: http://www.toro.com/customercare/com.../pdf/06-01.pdf God Bless America, ßill O|||||||O mailto:-------------------- http://www.----------.com/ freakshow77 wrote: > > A little off topic mechanical help is needed. > I have a mid 1970s Toro/Wheel Horse riding lawn tractor. > I started it the other day and everything was normal but when I turned > the ignition to the off position the engine stopped running but there > was a really loud hum coming from the starter. Re: OT - Riding lawn tractor help - please!
It was a faulty ignition switch. Staying stuck in the on position just
like you said. Replaced the ignition and the mower is back to normal. Thanks for the help Bill. Skye P.S. Is there anything you can't find a link to? : ) |
