OT Please No more US Presidential Politics

Yah know, when someone posts a commercial post here, the poster gets flammed big
time, even if it is on topic and related to Jeeps. So now we are in the US
Presidential election season and we've got people posting things that promote or
disrespect one candidate or the other. Aren't those posts just of form of a
commercial post? I mean they are trying to change the readers opinion and
encourage them to vote one way or the other.

I propose a complete moratorium on Presidential political posts. They are
nothing but commercial posts selling a candidate, which is barred by the groups
charter. If you want to sell something just make sure it is Jeep related, FS or
FA.

Now in the vein of keeping things fun and to help those confused by Real Life
vs. the Internet check this out. Made me laugh, especially the part about
discussing Politics on line <lol>. (Warning it is 21 megabytes and probably
rated PG 13 <g>)

This group isn't NEARLY as bad as some other groups I read. NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Until this is a moderated group there's no chance of avoiding them. Even if
the usuals around here don't post them, someone else will SPAM the group
with them. I just skip em' all, they all pretty much turn into pissing
contests at some point anyway.

It just really gets to be a drag when you log on and 100 out of 110 new
posts are some local area's political crap.

It 'is' off topic for the group and against the Charter no matter who
starts it. Moderated or not, this group does have a Charter that is
posted and talked about, so ISP's actually will take complaints
seriously, but that is a pain when 3/4 of the regular posters or lurkers
even don't give a crap...

Folks need to use some self control when they get obviously trolled.
Too many folks here swallow it hook line and sinker and then disrupt the
group with hundreds if not thousands of posts. I can't say I am
innocent of that either.

I am gone bush running Saturday for 10 days so hopefully can come back
to catching up on Jeep posts and not 1000's of BS posts to wade through
to find them.....

It is a RAMJ+W run with folks from here joining us.

That is still no excuse. This is not the proper place for posting ANY kind
of political message. This is supposed to be a Jeep group.

There are PLENTY of other political newsgroups for political posts.

That is still no excuse. This is not the proper place for posting ANY kind
of political message. This is supposed to be a Jeep group.

There are PLENTY of other political newsgroups for political posts.

Bill do you honestly think anyone in this group gives a damn about the trolls?
That's what they do, look for suckers to hook. If you take their bait your just
being a sucker. This is a place to talk about Jeeps. A better tactic is to
report them to their ISP.

I've seen you go after spammers and commercial posters. Some how I get the
sense that you really enjoy getting them shut down. Take that same enthusiasm
and shut the political posters down too. There are places for political talk,
this just isn't one of them.

No Bill, you are mistaken. Politics violate the group's charter.

This is a Jeep newsgroup. Please take your politics somewhere
appropriate.

If I have to start filtering a group after all these years, I will
certainly have to rethink if this is the place for me or if it is time
to move on.

I couldn't agree more. I didn't say I condoned it, or liked it. I just
said good luck in avoiding it. Reporting posters to their ISP's may have
some sucess but I doubt it make make a big difference in the long run. I
could be wrong.... seems there's been less filth around here lately. Maybe
that is a result of Mike and Bill and others reporting a lot of stuff to the
ISP's.

I'm already dreading a family reunion with most of my family being complete
political opossites of me..... At least it happens after the election, when
there won't be much to argue about anymore (unless it's another close vote).

Oh, I love family gatherings because mine is split 50/50 and each side is as
rabid as Bill about their point of view. I've been know to walk into a room and
toss out something sure to piss off one side or the other. They will get all
over me like "flies on stink" and then the other side will come to my defense.
Those guys will go on for hours. I guess I'm just a troll with my family. <lol>

I find it much more easy to incite the conservatives in my family than the
liberals. Maybe it is as Bill suggests that the young are liberals and the
older ones are conservatives. And by having had that change of heart they some
how feel the need to convert everyone to the "correct" way of thinking. But the
youngest adult of the group is a Rush Limbaugh kool-aid drinker, <g> so that
only goes so far.

Too bad we're not having a get together before the election, I could catch me a
