OT: Newsgroup Question

Apparently the RAMJW newsgroup has a charter. I'm sure something in it
covers hostility and foul language. As some have said, families may be
reading this stuff.

Anyway to get someone kicked off for blatant breaking of the rules? Of
course, this could apply to any newsgroup, just curious how it works.
Thanks.

Yes, there is a charter, but most ISPs will not TOS someone for trolling
or foul language. Best thing is to learn how to use killfilters and not
be sucked in by trolls. Unless of course it's poke-the-troll day.

Isn't it frustrating to be a wannabe netkkkop? You're bothered by
someone else using their Freedom of Speech, and you want to censor them.
But how? Oh, the humanity!

Re: OT: Newsgroup Question

Hi Eric,
We just can't get some poster kicked off, all we can do is forward
one of their examples to their internet service provider, or to the news
server it is using, then you're just adding a strew to the proverbial
camels back. They can't act on your report unless they have it's header
pasted to the forward. Do that by clicking on File, Properties, Detail
tab, right click, Select all, left click, Copy, and OK to close, then
paste it to the forward. Most of headers by trolls are bogus, so it'll
be a real guess as to which to send the abuses to. If you do the above
commands to this post you will find my ISP to be COX.net and that agrees
with the news server I'm using to be news.cox.net, so you know to
forward a report of my obscenities, or off topics to abuse@cox.net.
Usually the ISP you report to will give you their solution, I've got
hundreds of "account closed" replies. Which only means they move on to
another ISP and continue their attacks, OK, I'll invest another ten
seconds. :-)

Re: OT: Newsgroup Question

Bill,
Do you include the entire message (the offending one)? Or do you explain in
your forward what the offence was? (I've forwarded a couple of headers to
abuse@ addresses in the past and I almost always get an email saying "we're
looking into it", but I've never received a "cancelled" notice.)

Re: Newsgroup Question

Hi Jeff,

Thought I might respond to your comment. Freedom of speech does not apply to
the internet or newsgroups or much of anywhere. Problem is that most of the
lines of communication are private property and thus the owners have the
right to censor anything they want. Personally I don't care what people
post. Most troll posts are amusing. The trolls and the fish they catch can
be very amusing. If it ceases to be amusing I just don't read it anymore. I
really think reporting people to ISP's ect is a waste of time. If someone
wants to be a prick or does something I don't like then oh well, I have
other interests I can pursue. I trust this finds you in good spirits. I
think I'm off to play with my Jeep. The girlfriends at work so she can't
bitch about the money I'm about to spend. he he.

Dave

have your attorney forward the same letter of complain to their legal
department. cost is minimul, and youll see a world of difference in the
response you get. now that jeffrey has forged me, monday morning we play

I'd also make sure AOL gets a copy, since if you are actually
one of their subscribers, the offense is against AOL. Plus
the AOL attorneys have recently been getting all sorts of
billable hours due to folks forging AOL addresses. Something
about a letter from an AOL attorney that tends to get the
attention of small ISP's.

Re: OT: Newsgroup Question

Most postmasters want the complete message, unedited.
