Oil Question

I've got a '96 ZJ with 155k on it, I know the owners manual calls for a
certain type of oil, but I was wondering what the groups thoughts were on
different types of oil for that high of mileage.

Re: Oil Question

Our Cherokee has 310K km on it and we just use regular 10W30. It uses
about a liter between changes.

Re: Oil Question

Like Mike my 93 XJ has high miles on it (372k km's) I just use regular old
10w30 dino oil, it uses about a half litre of oil between changes (over due
by about 700 km's right now). I change the filter every change. When it
was leaking oil from the filter adaptor and valve cover I would use the
cheap industrial 10w30 stuff. Now that the leaks are gone I'm back to using
Pennzoil, quackerstate, valvoline what ever is on sale.

I had thought of using that high mileage stuff but a co-worker who used said
it was crap, its one of those things that once you start using it you better
keep using it, since it is almost 2x the amount of regular oil I decided not
to use it.

Re: Oil Question

I use 10-40 Quaker state on my 120k engine. It's only run in 60 degree F
temps and above. Only reason to use the heavier oil is to maintain
reasonable oil pressure at idle. You would like 20 psi, 10 psi at idle
is starting to be worrysome.
