off topic. beater truck?

looking for a relatively big (not behemoth, but able to haul an engine, wood,
etc with little headache)

pickup is fine, but has to be 4wd or awd. prefer something with good parts
availability (thinking along the lines of something with a ford or chevy small
block)

so far ive thought of:

older f-series,
ranger
possibly astro van (4wd version)
ram
bronco
i would even consider the commanche, but theyre hard to find in decent
condition, much less cheap.

this is purely a beater vehicle, so how well the paint holds up isnt a concern.

any comments on the examples above, or other suggestions?

mainly i want something that gets me and my load here to there without me
worrying if it will make it. getting through snow and off the beaten path is a
possibility, hence my preference for 4wd where possible.

I have hung on to my 86 Chevy shortbed 4x4 for just that reason. Probably
the cheapest car I have to maintain.

Re: off topic. beater truck?

Still in the planning stages, not looking for an immediate purchase, just
getting ideas but thanks, the f150 4wd's were definitely on my list.
