Off-roading in south-central Wisconsin

This is, I guess, part question (as someone suggested I do a few weeks
back when I first posted) and part "weeeeee!" post. Finally found some
public land around here where I could take my new (to me) 98 TJ out
and get it dirty. I remember my old man taking me out off-roading with
him with I was a kid but of course I never got to drive. What a blast.
Came very close to getting really stuck (so THAT's why dad always went
in groups...) but overall a very good time.

Unfortunately the DNR land I found is pretty limited so I'm looking
for a little more space to run. I'm about 50 miles north of Madison,
WI... any suggestions?

Thanks in advance. Been reading here from time to time and learning.

Nicolet has some trials I believe, not really "close" but you could
certainly make a weekend out of it.

Where did you wheel at that's closer to Madison? I didn't think there were
any legal trails unless you hit the national park. I'm heading up to Waupaca
chain of lakes next week so it would be cool if there were some legal trails
around there to wheel on.

I'm down in Kenosha myself, not much around here at all unless I go to
Indiana or northern WI.

Nicolet - good idea. Hadn't thought of that. It's not too far away. I
have a co-worker who canoes up there sometimes and she said it's nice.

I just found some DNR wildlife/hunting land around here. Not really
off-road trails, per se, but some nice back-country stuff and some
places where people had kind of forged their own way. Nothing too
lengthy though, unfortunately.

Good luck finding stuff closer. Let me know if you do... I've got some
friends in that area.

Re: Off-roading in south-central Wisconsin

There's just about nothing in WI. I'm in Milwaukee and there's the Pipeline
in the Nicolet.

A new commercial OHV park opened up in IL about 90 min south of Rockford.

Otherwise private lands. For that you'll need to join a 4wd group.
There's one in your area. 4 Lakes 4 wheelers
