NEED HELP:carb rebuild problems - stepper motor; choke liinkage

hey all - need some help...
just completed about 98% of a Carter BBD card rebuild and have two
major issues... one is that after removing the two small pins from the
stepper motor i accidently pushed the pin holder back into the stepper
motor body and now i cannot get the thing to come back out! tried a
brute force approach with pliers and vice grips - couldnt budge it.
tried plugging it back into the harness and turning on the ignition but
no go, didnt budge... am i missing something? will the YJ start without
the stepper motor? do i have to wait until engine temp hits a certain
point? why is this sucker so resistant? it went IN easily enough...

anyway - problem #2: the choke linkage rod appears to be binding up
against the choke housing, so that the choke plate wont open more than
say 50 - 60 degrees. i seem to remember being able to rotate the choke
plate open very nearly a full 90 degrees... this it will do if i leave
the choke linkage rod off. i didnt remove the choke linkage rod or the
housing so i find this very passing strange... i realize this is
somewhat vague... perhaps i'll hunt down a camera/phone tomorrow and
post some pictures.

in the meantime, any help is appreciated... need to get to work on
monday!
cheers,
bennett

Been there with that stepper. You just have to hold your tongue right
as you rock the center post with pliers and the pin holder will 'step'
back out.

Somehow it sounds like you have either got the rod wrong or the lever
has fallen off the spring inside the choke housing.
