My Jeep Belt
Hello!
Maybe one of you guys can help me? I just replaced my belt on my 1992 Jeep and I dont what the tension limit is or how to tell if it is tight enough as it is. Does anyone know? I would greatly appreciate the help! |
Re: My Jeep Belt
What model Jeep? You can buy a belt tension gauge, probably at the same
place you bought the belt. Most of us old guys go by the deflection and "feel" of it. If it doesn't squeal when you start up on a cold morning or when you turn the power steering to lock, it is probably tight enough. Is that possible? It doesnt have a ratchet tightener like other vehicles. It has a couple of screws that you adjust. Is it something will adjust itself? By the way, thanks for the help! |

If the belt is too tight it can cause premature wear on pulley bearings. You can either get a tension gauge from a local parts store or go between the two furthest apart pulleys and press the belt down, it shouldn't deflect more than about 1" Some say it is when you can twist that portion exactly 90 degrees. worth a read. http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl-453h.htm -- DougW |

I have another question that maybe you can help me on too!? When I accelerate from a complete stop there is a clicking sound. I'm not sure where it is comeing from. Do you have any ideas what it might be? |

Re: My Jeep Belt
Is it speed related or engine speed related ?
Does it go away if you disengage the clutch ? Can you hear the same clicking when you are braking ? Dave Milne, Scotland Jazzygirl wrote: > Thanks! That can cause what sounds like a rattle or knock, especially accelerating from a stop or low speeds. My daughter has one of those and she's bugging the heck out of me to fix it - but it's not bothering me so... Usually, the sounds changes as temp increases from a cold start and the metal expands. -- Will Honea -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |
