more on axles, swapping a 44 into 87 wranger
My haytian jeep, which I want to put 4.11 gears into is having new thoughts.
My mechanicien, it turns out, has two new axles sitting there. They are 4.09 ratio, new parts he bought for a company which left the country and stranded these axles. Looking up 4.09 ratio tells me that they are probably Dana 44 heavy duty. They were built for cherokees so spring and shock mounts would have to be adapted. No problem, welders are everywhere here. To use one of these axles (third member? the whole thingie) in my wrangler I'd have to buy new axle shafts and bearings. What we are wondering about is the brake assembly. Backing plate, hub, whatever you call it. Does anyone know if the brake/wheel/hub assembly thing fit from a dana 35 onto a dana 44? Then I'd like to put a diesel in it. He (mechanicien) says that they used to sell jeeps with isuzu diesels here. Most of them were trashed, as most cars are quite quickly here, so the bell housing adaptors are available. Getting a rebuilt isuzu engine is the search. en port au prince, j. david lyall //www.lyalls.net/ |
