Massive oil in air filter 93 cherokee
I have a 93 cherokee with a 4.0 HO in it and I am getting a huge
ammount of oil in the air filter. I have replaced the oil cap, the front elbow/grommet and hose that go from valve cover to the airfilter and I have replaced the rear metered hole elbow/grommet and vacuum lines. I am still getting alot of oil into the air filter. I was told the \PCV valve is built into the valve cover. is that true? I am not burning any oil and when I change the oil it is clean. I seem to have good compression but all the oil is causing me to loose power, mileage etc.... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jeremy Colorado |
Re: Massive oil in air filter 93 cherokee
There is a known problem with the PCV system and another one caused by a
gummed up throttle body that can also lead to oil in the air filter. I think the PCV problem was with earlier models but I am sure someone with the information will chime in with the appropriate dates. The fix there is replacement of parts. The throttle body fix entails a thorough cleaning of all the gum, gunk, goop, and misc crud with an old toothbrush and a spray can of good cleaner such as GumOut JetSpray. It is easy enough for anyone to do on a warm summer day (when I did mine) and a bit more troublesome while standing in the snow. I have some before and after pix..... for some reason I neglected to take any once I actually started the cleaning.. http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=2122181169 "sc00ter" <skylog@msn.com> wrote in message news:1138727102.491696.29740@z14g2000cwz.googlegro ups.com... >I have a 93 cherokee with a 4.0 HO in it and I am getting a huge > ammount of oil in the air filter. Re: Massive oil in air filter 93 cherokee
Hi Jeremy,
There's an orifice at the base of the throttle butterfly that gets clogged with carbon, that acts like a Positive Crankcase Venation valve: http://www.off-road.com/jeep/cheroke...ltr/blowby.htm God Bless America, Bill O|||||||O mailto:-------------------- http://www.----------.com/ sc00ter wrote: > > I have a 93 cherokee with a 4.0 HO in it and I am getting a huge > ammount of oil in the air filter. Re: Massive oil in air filter 93 cherokee
Thanks foor the info, I have removed the valve cover and cleaned out
the snorkles and the such and according to the dealership and JEEP my cherokee doesnt have a valve cover gasket so I used MOPAR RTV , probably the same as any other RTV, but I am going to replace the plugs and change the oil today while I am waiting the 24 hours forthe rtv to cure. I am then going to attempt to clean the throttle body really good and cross my fingers.
