M.O.R.E. 1" Engine Mounts
 

Installed the M.O.R.E. 1" engine mounts in the YJ today. No sooner than the
UPS man delivering them was I turning wrenches. The quality of the mounts
was very impressive. The difference was night and day when compared to the
stock mounts. Installation was a breeze. All I have left is to torque all
the bolts, but I am going to wait until I put on the suspension lift and
torque everything all at once.

I said that the installation was a breeze except for a couple of problems.

I did have some metal-to-metal contact between the passenger frame and block
mount but decided to leave until I swap out the engine in a year or two. The
contact is not to bad but according to MORE "Some 87-95 YJ's must do some
cutting-grinding on frame and factory block mounts to fit". The mounts did
fit but there is contact. Any thoughts on this? Should the metal-to-metal
contact be ok?

Also, on the passenger side mount the top bolt threads were messed up when I
removed the bolt. So I replaced the bolt with a new one, the bolt went in
easily until about halfway then it was real hard the rest of the way. After
the bolt was all the way in I decided to remove because I thought the
threads might be damaged. The new bolt threads were all messed up. So what
do you think about taping the hole to the next bigger size and using a
larger bolt?

How about just running a tap through that is the correct size to clean / fix
the bad threads that are already there?

Yup, I still hang out here every once in a while. Still up north too, in
MT. I've been here now going on 15 months. The work has gotten better so
we decided to stay for the time being. That's tough for a gypsy like me.
;-).

How is everything down in the Springs? I still haven't swapped out that
frontend yet. The wife pressured me into buying a house this summer
instead. Go figure... I did sneak in a D60 rear last fall though.

Looking back on my receipt, I discovered I'm using the Currie 1" motor
mounts, not the M.O.R.E. mounts. I had no frame contact with mine and they
fit perfectly.

I'd think the contact would give you some unwanted vibes. Suggest some
minor grinding on your passenger side to correct that.

Yes, I would consider rethreading too.

I had to grind just a bit on the passenger side on my '99 with MORE
mounts. 4" angle grinder, grind on the welded mount. Bit of a pain to
get to, but it can be done. I don't know if I'd leave it, I'd try to get
rid of a bit of the mount somehow.

Glad to hear the work situation got better! Tammy still keeps bugging me
about getting up there to check it out. Tammy dislikes the Springs more
than me but I think that's because I'm too distracted with hunting, and all,
to pay attention.

Ran some trails over in Montrose a couple months ago and considering the
beating my crossmember got, Tammy said to sell that 60 I've got and get a
ProRock. Need a properly designed high pinion so I can raise the engine and
xfer case yet maintain decent angles so I can continue running it as a daily
driver. That'll allow me to put a completely flat skid under the belly. As
rough as those trails are over there, my center skid hit far more than the
60 did.

Any gas tank rubbing from the cover Dynatrac uses?

I'm pleased with the Dynatrac ProRock D60 rearend so far, but I haven't
really put it to the test yet off road. I'm running it with 35s, 5.13s, and
a Detroit. With about 4.5" of suspension lift in the back, coupled with the
1" motor mounts and high pinion, the angle is minimal. I actually gained
about an inch of clearance over my previous high-pinion Ford 9". I hope to
match it with one in the front this fall before hunting season starts.

If you are not using an aftermarket gas tank skid plate, then you'll have no
problem with the ProRock cover rubbing. But I was getting some minor
contact with my ACF skid plate during full stuff and/or hitting the big road
bumps. I cut about a 3"x4" square section out of front of my ACF skid plate
closest to the cover to eliminate this.

You and Tammy come on up for a visit. I'd recommend making 2 trips to make
sure it is really for you - a summer and a winter trip. If the hunting is
the only thing that's really keeping you in Colo Springs, then you wouldn't
be disappointed here. I can almost guarantee the hunting is as good or
better with lesser crowds. My coworker moved up from there a couple years
ago. He and his wife are just the opposite - she wants to go back (better
shopping, etc), but he likes it better here.
