Last wheel ?.... Steel vs. Aluminum
 

Hey Everyone,
This will be my last question about wheels, i promise. I've decided that if
i switch to steel wheels, i'm getting white "wagon wheels" and getting them
coated. The local shop has a dozen different silver's, including one that
looks like a lighter black or a dark silver, depending on how the sun hits it.
My question....
Will the extra weight of the steel wheel with a 35" tire be worth the
strength? I know the aluminums are much lighter, but in turn are not as
strong. I have the AMC 20 with one-piece kit and a Dana 30 upgraded to the
six-bolt Warn hubs. I'd love a bigger front axle, but not in the bidget for a
while. Should i keep the lighter wheels until i get bigger axles? Opinions?

Steel flexes better than aluminum. If you slam your wheel into something,
the wheel balance will be better maintained by the steel wheel.

bent steel wheels can be whomped back into servicable shape with a BFH,
while cast wheels crack

What the others said and lighter????

I sure don't think Jeep cast rims are 'lighter' by any amount, if
anything they are very heavy pigs....
