JGC Radar detector hardwire / day/night mirror power draw
I am interested in hardwiring my radar detector in my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I am thinking about using the power feed from the day/night mirror as suggested in a previous thread (http://groups.google.com/group/rec.a...563d305756b898). My radar detector needs 250mA. Does anyone know the output of the Auto Day/Night Mirror (+)? There is a diagram of the wiring at http://www.wjjeeps.com/day_night_1.jpg but I cannot find the power output of the lead. Thanks. |
Re: JGC Radar detector hardwire / day/night mirror power draw
I would get a voltmeter and check what kind of amperage the wires are
pulling. Not sure if I would pull power from that or not. Re: JGC Radar detector hardwire / day/night mirror power draw
The size or gauge of the wires controls the power available on the line.
I would imagine, but don't know for sure that the wiring could take an additional 250 ma. draw. Just be aware that a hard wire install could make your vehicle illegal to drive in some places in North America.... Re: JGC Radar detector hardwire / day/night mirror power draw
Are they legal in your home state? I wouldn't hard wire it in until I
was certain. And will you be driving in any states where they are illegal? I used a suction cup mount with a rechargeable battery pack that could be stashed very quickly if I was pulled over. Even in states where they are legal having one visible is the difference between a warning and a ticket if you get pulled over. Something to think about. blue7echo wrote: > I am interested in hardwiring my radar detector in my 2004 Jeep Grand > Cherokee. Re: JGC Radar detector hardwire / day/night mirror power draw
you would be better off taping into the blue wire from the ing switch that way it turns on and off with the key and can't be a battrey draw
