JGC oil leak help needed
I went out to change the oil this morning, and noticed and found I had oil leaking from the fitting that the filter screws onto. The fitting does a 90 degree turn from the filter into the engine and it's leaking from the end that attaches to the engine. The fitting is round and I don't see any bolts to remove it. Does the whole fitting unscrew and I just need to replace a gasket? The darn Chilton's manual is worthless on the subject. I posted a pic to alt.binaries.pictures.autos.4x4 TIA and my appretiation to all that contribute here and have helped me out many times over the years without their ever knowing it. rufus 98 JGC I6 4.0 175k mi (Clyde) |

At any rate there is an o-ring in there between the engine and adapter. Here is a good writeup. http://www.yuccaman.com/jeep/filter.html -- DougW |

Please reply to the group how your repair went. I have the same leak, and I
can't find a torx bit short enough to remove the bolt. I looked at the previous post, and even though the pictures are good, I still can't find the tools shown. cal "rufus t" <r_firefly@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:nWaWg.20622$Ij.7214@newssvr14.news.prodigy.co m... > "DougW" <post.replies@invalid.address> wrote in news:YGaWg.32382$iA5.12955 > @dukeread11: > >> Sure it's not running down from the valve cover? >> >> At any rate there is an o-ring in there between >> the engine and adapter. I think i did it once by taking torx bit out of the socket and used a 10mm

Re: JGC oil leak help needed
Guys,
Just did that exact same repair yesterday. Kit was like $2.70 from a dealer and I was able to do it in 30 minutes or so. I did it from under the car. I had cheap set of torx sockets from AutoZone. They are 1-piece sockets and biggest one is T60. After I placed socket into bolt I was able to get my craftsman 3/8 ratchet on it. Actually, it went very easy. Loosen it with ratchet, then I got visegrips on a socket(remember? cheap autozone sockets) and finished. |
