Have some one you trust not to run you over, as you watch from
below as this trusted person rocks the sheering wheel a couple of inches
back and forth, engine running. There is a little give in the track bar
and tie rod ends, but you shouldn't be able to see any with the naked
eye, and just barely feel with your hand, being very careful not to
shred your hand in the fan and belt.

Grab it at the link arm which is the vertical piece at the end and
pull it back and forth while observing the rubber boots (connection
points) for play, repeat at both ends. The link between the horizontal
stabilizer and the vertical link should have very little play. With
the first one that went on my Grand Cherokee it was disconnected
(broken) but the damage was contained within the rubber boot, when
ever I turned a corner or hit a bump I would hear the clunk on that
side of the front end as the pieces slipped on each other.
