Re: Jeep brake lights

I also have weird brake light problem. 98 Cherokee (XJ), sometimes, and
it seems to be when the vehicle has been running a while, the right
rear directional signal light will go on when the left rear directional
signal light goes on.
(ie, I signal left, and both the left-rear and right-rear directionals
flash together, as if the hazard flashers were on.)
Any ideas?

Re: Jeep brake lights

Broken filament in the brake lamp bulb. When the Lights are off, the brake
lamp grounds through the lighting circuit. The ground source goes away when
you switch the Lights on.

Re: Jeep brake lights

Also check the bulb socket itself for corrosion and signs of overheating.

Re: Jeep brake lights

there is a flaw in the rear lense housing that allows for this to
happen....ur shorting out...there is a part in the lense that is easy to see
where the wiring meet with the bulbs...u can see it ... it melts inside
over time by heat of bulbs......sad thing is jeep doesnt offer it as a part
but comes as a whole with the lense only.....tried to get warrenty to cover
but no go cause the lense is a cosmetic part....dealership even couldnt
explain it to warrenty company......go to a junk yard or spend 150 on a new
whole lense unit....been there and forked over the bucks...u can check what
I am saying by hooking up your working side and see the results......2001
grand cherokee....yet still have a Merry Christmas and get it fixed so you
dont get pulled over....
