Ignition upgrade question
Anyone here tried a hotter coil
for thier 4.0 or for that matter any other engine. Feelings? I'm thinking about increasing the gap on my plugs and running a hotter coil. Not quite up for the multispark conversion, but who knows. -- DougW |
Re: Ignition upgrade question
Hi Doug,
You'll need the larger distributor cap to prevent crossfire, as the Ford and GM use with their sixty to seventy thousand volts. It's supposedly drop-in part same connector/bolt pattern. Primary Resistance: 1.2 ohms Secondary Resistance: 13.7K ohms Maximum Voltage: 35,000 volts Inductance: 8 mH Turns Ratio: 70:1 That reads (resistance wise) like the factory Toyodenso coil 1.2 primary, 13.7 secondary but I don't have any reference for what the stock coil puts out. Drawing from transformer theory my guess is it's a damn close match. ... wow .. Digital CPC (direct fire) systems too. Heh.. ..mebby not.. -- DougW |

I have the Accel SuperCoil in my 4.2.
It 'seemed' to give me some extra punch when I put it in.
