Ignition/electrical problems?
Could be a Carter carb problem, too.
Picking up a used Weber tomorrow. Here's the story: 88 YJ, 4.2, Carter carb. Began killing occasionally a month ago. I've narrowed down the symptoms. After driving a little while, when I push in the clutch to stop, engine will go to a very low idle (<500 RPM) then it dies. Seems to happen mainly after riding in 4th or 5th for a while. If I restart it, it immediately idles fine. (Makes no difference if I use the starter or let the clutch back out to restert it while rolling) It doesn't happen every time I drive it, but it's often enough to be frustrating. I have only had it do this once while sitting still, it was quick, but I could swear my tach was real twitchy, bouncing up a couple hundred RPM, almost like it had a loose connection. I should add, I did have it in a lot of mud and water (not submerged, just splashing/deep) the day before it started this, but it never killed or ran bad on the trail Tookie - Denham Springs, LA 88YJ,"Money Hungry" 4" lift, 33" TSLs, Lock-Rights PosiLock, 4.10s |
