I take it back, I do hear pinging at idle

When I did my smoke test I heard pinging at idle. Sounds like it's
dieseling to me. Sounds like a diesel truck.

Okay I take it back, this is your best description yet of the sound.
diesel sound is very like ping. One question what did you do for air
flow/filtration? I haven't done an MPI kit; do they come with cold air
ducting? Or is your air being sucked into the filter from inside the
engine compartment?

Air is being sucked into the filter from inside the engine compartment.

HESCO did mention the filter should be as close to the front if the vehicle
as possible.

Mine is sitting on the left fender well in side the engine compartment.
About 12 inches from where the old carb system hooked to the grill assembly.
