is this how it's supposed to look?

hey there everybody-finally took my t-176 apart and looked at the gears for
chipped teeth, cracks, etc. i noticed that all the gears have what looks
like a worn area on the little teeth that sit next to the synchros. the
gear teeth that are next to this "worn out" area also look different than
the rest. the thing is, there are similar teeth on the other side of the
gear, at 180 degrees. this makes me think that it's normal and i shouldn't
worry. i didn't find any metal shavings at the bottom of the case. go here
to see a couple of pix. thanks!

They look fine. While you have it apart, replace the bras syncho rings and
the shift "dogs", the little rectangular deals in the clutch gear assembly
(also called the synchonizer assemble, etc.). The little circular springs
should be nice & stiff, too, if not replace them.

Re: is this how it's supposed to look?

Those are the synchros. You should be noticing that the gears are a little
rough when going from one to the next.
