Hot CJ

I have a 79 CJ with a 258 motor. It overheated pretty good. Running 60 mph
when noticed. No water in oil and head Gasket seams to be fine. I replace
the radiator, water pump and thermestat with a 195 deg. ALL are new parts
not used. The thing runs fine. Even passed Emission (what a relieve).
BUT....The temp gage says it's running hot. It rides on the "H". It ran 1/2
to 3/4 before this all happened. I think maybe the sending unit is bad. I
will replace it today. Also the fan belt was replace early summer. I will
replace it again as well. I know the rad is right size as a 6cyl is the same
as a 8cyl. So there was only one coice. Is it possible for a sending unit to
go bad??. I'm out of parts to replace.
ANY input would be helpful.

THANKS
Big Don
79 CJ / 98 XJ

Hi Don,
You have the wrong water pump. As has happened to me two for two,
they were boxed wrong from Pep Boys and Kragens. The pump you put on was
reversed to use with the serpentine belt:
