Help... no elec power to my TJ

I started my 97 TJ today and drove about four blocks when the dash bell
rang and the CHECK GAUGES message appeared.
The voltmeter was pegged at about 19 volts. So I drove the Jeep home
and turned the engine off.

I tried to restart it but there is no electrical power anywhere...
lights, horn, radio, key/door buxzer... nada.

The battery had full power.

I pulled the fuses from the box under the hood and they were all good.
After I finished with the fuses I noticed that the hood light was on...
it was off before I checked the fuses.

I tried to start the Jeep and everything was normal... engine ran and
all electrics worked.

What could be my problem?

TIA

Like I mentioned in another group to you, you have a dirty/loose battery
cable.

Gad, I can't believe you guys. Troubleshooting skills of
an MBA. This is a *power* problem folks, so it is much
more likely to be defective spark plugs. The poor OP has
a leaky spark plug that isn't plugging the spark hole
properly and is letting all the electricity leak out
thru the exhaust...where perhaps it may have damaged
Bill's muffler bearing, but only as a secondary effect.
