Fresh air duct 1976 CJ - Help Bill!
I figure that bill has a link on this one. Here's the deal. The radio will
not fit because there is a duct or hose or something in the way. I looked at the pictures in the Haynes manual and I examined the vehicle. The examination was not conclusive. The pictures in the manual showed that the 'hose' goes down to a connection that is near the floor and it passes behind the speaker grill on the dash. On the jeep, the duct appears to be correct from looking through the grill that is behind the hood on the front the the jeep, but the "hose" comes off that duct and it goes right behind the radio cutout. it's about 4 inches away from the front. No way is it enough room for the radio, not a chance. I'm just thinking that they (whoever 'they' are) installed a transition duct from the wrong model year and the transition is too far to the left (looking at it from the driver's seat) about 8" too far to the left. Hi Chip,
Have you tried just pushing it out of the way? Probably that's how it got there, someone pushed there to get something else. Re: Fresh air duct 1976 CJ - Help Bill!
That duct is supposed to have a curve in it that allows the radio to fit.
They formerly made that ducts from a paper based material, the replacement duct is plastic. The radio will fit. OK, my radio fits ... Re: Fresh air duct 1976 CJ - Help Bill!
That's not quite it. The duct comes down from the hood grille, it is rigid
plastic until right above the radio cavity. There's no way to push it out of the way. Another thought on the subject: The vent control on the dash has 3 positions on it. Off - heat - vent, the only problem is that the contol will not pull out to the third position. I traced the cable to the actual gate and discovered that is does not have the necessary hardware on it to move in three positions. It's just not there at all. I compared it to my dad's '84 to see what else was supposed to be down there. Granted, the 84 is different. I looked in the repair manual and it has nothing on the vent system for various model years. Actually, nothing at all. This made me wonder if the 76 controls had the vent capability (I believe it should) or if the installed heating assembly that includes the vent is the incorrect one? It's looks like there are incompatible pieces in there. - the contol is wrong, the housing and hose is in the way of the radio..... just doesn't add up. Chip I'll take a few digital pictures (soon) and provide a link so you can see what I'm looking at. <Matt Osborn> wrote in message news:vj8en0ldvccgcbrn3tg8ue9u16m7ecfujl@4ax.com... > On Thu, 21 Oct 2004 00:41:16 GMT, "Chip" <cjenkins1@nospam.neo.rr.com> > wrote: > >>Can someone copy bill's response to this one and repost it? A heat gun? (annoying games show buzzer) Wrong answer.
I have a few pictures that show the radio cavity with the duct in question pointed out. Then there is a picture from under the dash. Don't pass judgement until you see the pictures. Something is amiss. http://www.hpphoto.com/servlet/com.h...sword=64321364 Chip "DougW" <post.replies@invalid.address> wrote in message news:EbXdd.76148$tU4.2960@okepread06... > Chip did pass the time by typing: >> That's not quite it. Better have some $ though. http://www.kitcarmag.com/techarticles/74539/ Some of those older AM radios wern't too big. Others were freeking monsters. -- DougW |
