The bolts will not come all the way out. He had to grind one down
because it was too wide to fit between the bolt and the wall.
He has a stand under the tranny so it doesn't fall. But can't get the
bolts all the way out.

Cut a hole in the firewall/floorboard, or lower the transmission
and tilt the engine down for the one above the starter.

Cut a hole in the firewall/floorboard, or lower the transmission
and tilt the engine down for the one above the starter.

Take the cross member out and support the unit on a transmission jack. They
are cheap if you buy chinese, or you will probably find one at a rental
yard.
Don't try to do it with a conventional floor jack unless you have a few
friends under there with you to keep it from squishing your head.
I find it easier to just remove the engine.
