Failed emissions on 83 CJ7. Any suggestions?
Failed Emmisions on my 83 CJ7 258 and weber carbed and air bypass crap
removed Failed to CO test standard is 3.78 and mine was 3.88 at 25 mph (high speed test) Failed to CO test standard is 2.79 and mine was 3.99 at 15 mph (low speed test) Where do I look to fix this? It already has a new cat and I drove the thing for 30 minutes to get it warm before getting it tested. I got home and cleaned my air filter, adjusted the idle mixture screw and advanced my timing a bit. Anything else I can try before going back a giving it another shot? TIA, Ted |

forgot to mention, my choke was not opening but about a 1/3 of the way also.
That is now corrected. Hi Ted,
Sounds like you found the problem, it may have fouled the spark plugs, though. Out here we must past the visual, so if anything is removed, I'd get it back on for looks. Re: Failed emissions on 83 CJ7. Any suggestions?
If the choke was doing that when you tested, that is likely the cause of
your failure. Otherwise, a carb overhaul is likely going to be necessary to get the mixture where it belongs. Don't waste money on plugs or wires or anything like that. This is strictly a fuel mixture problem.
