Any one else experience a cracked Exhaust Manifold near the exhaust pipe
flange weld on the 1992-1998 Jeep Grande Cherokee.

I know of Three Cracked manifolds in my home area of Central Ohio

Does anyone have any knowledge of a recall for this?

Any information on this issue would be helpful.

I know that Autozone sells the Manifold itself for about $194.00 and
Advance Auto sell the manifold and gaskets as a kit for about $230.00.

But shoot if it is an issue for a recall why should i pay for it?

It is a known issue. The manifold has been redesigned for later model jeeps.
This is a very common issue and it is not under a recall. If it were me and
I was going to keep it for a while, I would get a good borla replacement.
They have a lifetime warranty.

Chris,

Just had mine ('94 ZJ, 4.0L) rewelded. Did not know before I took it in
that this was a common issue. I hate it when I find out from my mechanic
"oh, we see this all the time in GCs."

The Grand Cherokee is the ZJ. The cracked manifold is tossed
in for free by the engineers at Chrysler. It would be a better
question of "has anyone NOT experienced the standard cracked
manifold on the 4.0"?

My dealer replaced mine totally free as part of the california
emissions warranty, with a slightly different design unit.

If I had to pay a dime, wouldn't use the jeep part, use an
aftermarket.

Emissions warranty.

 

Make that 4 in your area. No recall, it's just a eventuallity if you own an
older XJ. You know of any good spots to wheel around here? :-)
