Exhaust Manifold
While I was under the jeep woring on the clutch problem, I noticed a crack
in the manifold. I'm tempted to take it off and have it welded. Any reason I shouldn't do this? Thanks, Doug |
Re: Exhaust Manifold
The weld won't hold.
My manifold cracked about 4 inches long on the inside (the side next to the block) of the collector where all six exhaust ports come together. The problem with this is the design, there is a huge amount of matal that all comes together there, and it must be able to expand and contract, but it can't so it cracks instead. You should give serious consideration to a new header. This will do a couple of things, 1.) the header is a 6 into 2 into 1 design that has greater ability to expand and contract, thereby avoiding the cracking, 2.) the header is a 6 into 2 into 1 design that will breath easier, and all other things remaining equal, will provide better horsepower and greater fuel economy. Did I say the header is a 6 into 2 into 1 design? If I did, I was referring to the Borla, other makers might use a different design.
