Error code question

I have a 99 TJ with the engine light on. I tried the on/off with the key,
but get no error codes showing up. Any hints?
I believe it is the O2 sensor as I ran it with the exhaust hanging off
before the primary (upstream) O2 sensor.
Anyway --- how else can I get the codes without buying the diagnostic tool
or heading to a mechanic with one?

Sorry but without a diagnostic scan tool, you can't get the codes off your
'99 TJ. There are a few years where they made the codes inaccessable and
'99 is one of them.

Hi Bill,
Give it another try, only this time give enough time to make it's
diagnosis. Some digital panels need the trip odometer cleared and read
from there: http://www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html

99 was a year that was not allowed access without a scan tool
