Error code P0456 (M)

I have this error code on my 2002 TJ sport 6 cylinder.
P0456 (M) Evap Leak Monitor Small Leak Detected Leak has been detected
in the evaporative system.

What does this mean, and is there a quick way to fix it or find the
leak? Where would I start?

Re: Error code P0456 (M)

No kidding, it's likely just your gas cap is loose, or leaking air if you
have installed an aftermarket locking gas cap. If the computer notices any
air leak in the fuel system during self-tests, it'll set that error code.

Re: Error code P0456 (M)

I hope Jerry is right.
Other than that I hope you are still under warranty.
My 01TJ when fairly new, had the same problem. Brought it in
to the dealer numerous time only to have the check engine light
come back on soon after (next day) The dealer finally
kept the piece of junk for a week and apparently replaced the gas tank.
I asked them numerous times for a itemized list (copy of work order) of
the things they did. which I never got.
Why do I think, they really just overridden the fault code
in the computer.

Maybe clean the mud out of the gas cap and see what happens?
