End of the Summer Canadian RAMJ+W Bush Run Report

We had a nice 10 days of mostly R and R. One couple tried to find us on
Sunday, but couldn't get past the beaver flood solo and we didn't know
when they were coming to meet us.

We didn't run up to James Bay like originally planned, finances were
just too tight for that long a drive for most folks so we just went out
to the same area we normally run.

The trail in was pretty insane. There were two places the beavers had
dammed so the trail went into the water and disappeared around the
corner.... I was up over my 33's in water crossing them at one place.

I made an error and was in 4 high the first time across. Hooked an edge
and went in deep in the rear corner with my wife just saying, 'more gas,
more gas' over and over. I was in 1st chugging along at 400 rpm but she
didn't stall, those tall skinny muds just motored along and out I came.

When we went out to meet Snowboardripper Thursday night, I let him lead
back in with all his off road lights. Then I mentioned the water
crossing... LOL! All I hear on the CB is some grumbling about 'not too
deep' and 'last time' and '120 lb mutt trying to swim out of the back of
the Jeep' and 'now I am in front?'. ;-) Here is the last time he
tried to follow me in water:
http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292076845

We made it across with no drama, it was dark and we hit the underwater
trail right....

Jo and Steve were waiting back at camp, they made it in the 'closed'
road side which is 2 hours shorter for them. The locals had fixed the
crossing so it was now safe. We found out and came out to a local gas
stop and phoned folks coming that way to save them the time.

We got off on a 'oh I have always wondered where that tiny road off to
the side goes' roads and it got interesting fast. We just fit with the
mirrors folded and had to trim some branches. The trail wen ton and on
and I figured it was heading to a sweet white sand beach on a nice
fishing lake I saw my first trip in there in 1990 when it got really
technical fast. We were winching through bogs and I got tagged nasty on
a fresh cut stump in some long brush. Hooked the rear spring hanger
hard with one of those 'ouch' stops and cracked the frame just in front
of it. :-( We had to jack me up and winch me sideways with a snatch
block off a tree. Got free and figured we would leave the rest of this
trail for a full day trip on another run.

On the way out of that trail, I am calmly winching my CJ7 up the side of
a ravine with Snowboardripper just finished winching up the other side
of the trail and an ATV shows up. He sits there with his jaw hanging as
I am talking to him while my CJ7 on fast hand throttle is climbing up
the wall. LOL! It looked like took him a while to figure out I had a
winch on front.

He told us we were half way and indeed it went to the beach. Next
trip...

My rad got broken in half, the strap on the side that holds the bottom
tank on so the heavy tank stretched the thin water tubes 1/4" longer and
one split plus a couple pulled out. I soldered it up at the camp and it
made it home before blowing up! I shut it down in the driveway and my
wife comes in a bit later and says 'the jeep is making strange noises'.
LOL, it was just puking out everything. I patted the CJ and said
'thanks for making it home'. :-)

We had a nice trip all in all and a nice visit with some old RAMJ+W
friends.

I am looking forward to actually being able to do some off roading
without pain, but for now will take what little I can get. We did enjoy
ourselves.

Getting better, slowly.....

Re: End of the Summer Canadian RAMJ+W Bush Run Report

Damn ...I wish I coulda been on that trip. When my baby is ready to go I
will definitely be taking the drive down there. I should start saving for
gas now :) Speaking of which ...does anyone have a Weber carb to fit in the
4cyl 150CI '85 CJ7? I'd like to replace my troublesome stock feedback but
don't really feel like spending the $400USD to buy one new.

Anywho, thanks for the pics and hope you are doing better as well. Keep us
posted.
