Driveway paintjob progress
Got the Jeep painted today. Finished the wheels last night, did the
outside today and will Herculine the bed tomorrow. Here's a before and after picture of what I've got so far: Before: http://jeepadventures.dyndns.org/jeep/dayone/02.jpg After: http://jeepadventures.dyndns.org/jeep/paint/10.jpg I think it'll look much better with the bedliner in it. I still need to touch up a couple of spots, but I love how it's coming along so far. :-D -- Travis http://jeepadventures.dyndns.org/jeep.html The meek shall inherit the earth. After I'm finished with it. :wq! |

I spent the better part of two weekends just preping, and most of a sunday masking. Probably spend 5 hours putting three coats on with a HV spray gun and 5hp compressor setup. You did sand right? I'm probably not telling you anything you didn't already know, but if you didn't strip the wax off that shiny blue, and didn't scuff it pretty thuroughly you'll be seeing that flat paint come right back off like peels off an onion :( I've got some pics of 2 and 3 foot long strips of gloss blue paint coming off my hood as I stripped just such a paint job off. It looks nice though for a rattle can job, there's something about flat green paint on a Jeep :) I just finished starch blasting my stainless hardware, I'll probably throw some pics up myself soon. |

Yeah, yesterday afternoon I stripped all of the stuff off I needed to, then first thing this morning my wife and I started sanding. After we sanded it down about 2/3 of the way, we started taping off stuff. We taped most of it off, then I started painting while my wife finished the sanding and taping. It's not a perfect job by far. But we did scuff the blue paint pretty good all over before spraying over it. This Jeep is going to see a lot of trail time including some decently thick woods. I expect the paint job to get abused pretty badly so I didn't even try to make it perfect. It's a "10 footer" paint job. > >It looks nice though for a rattle can job, there's something about flat >green paint on a Jeep :) I agree. I had several people tell me they liked the blue color, but it just wasn't for me. > >I just finished starch blasting my stainless hardware, I'll probably >throw some pics up myself soon. Cool. I'm gonna put some more pics up soon after I do the Herculiner coating and finish the little touch-ups that need to be done tomorrow. The headers I ordered should be here Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Next weekend I'll put those on and post pictures of that. It's coming together fast. :-) -- Travis http://jeepadventures.dyndns.org/jeep.html The meek shall inherit the earth. After I'm finished with it. :wq! |
