dead speedometer - 97 TJ SE

the speedometer in my 97 TJ has died. i've taken the dash apart, all
electrical connectors appear fine. is there a sending sensor somewhere for
the speedometer. with the dead speedometer, my daytime running headlights
don't come on and the odometer doesn't work either, which is fine except
that i'm trying to sell it right now. any suggestions for repair would be
appreciated.

It's probably the speedometer gear and sender assembly that is bolted to the
side of the transfer case. Has anyone been messing around down there
lately? Check out http://www.jeepin.com/features/speedogear/index.asp for
where it's located. It might be a broken speedometer gear or maybe the
housing is out of position, read the info on that site for information on
what I'm talking about.
