Dana 35 weight?

Anyone know what the D 35 weights? Daughter's YJ only has a 2.5 L 4 cyl in
it, I have a chance to get a D 44 front and D 60 rear for free for her, but
I just wonder about adding that much weight, D 60 is approx. 264 pounds. As
much as I would like to put them on my CJ, I would be doing a lot of cutting
to get it down to my narrow track. And besides, she had her's first, and the
35 has to go.

No, but it's not so much thaqt you an't easily throw it onto a junk pile
where it belongs!

The 44 & 60 (same combination I have on my '94 YJ 4.0L) are going to be very
noticeable behind the 4 banger. Not only will it have to deal with
significantly more weight, but the internal resistance of the 60 will
definitively be a performance drain on highway. If all it's going to do is
low speed, off roading, then it's probably going to be fine, but on road
performance will suffer significantly. (Might want to rethink putting them
on the CJ!)

Hi Greg,
I wouldn't worry about the weight, it's unsprung weight anyway,
it's not like you suddenly drop a ton in the bed. If a Dana 60 weighs
264 pounds with it's 1 1/2" axles and the 9.75" ring gear than we can
guestimate the Dana 35 with it's puny it's 1 1/16" axles and 7.56" ring
gear to be about 205. Kind of like saying 9.75 is to 7.56 as 264 is to
X.

Re: Dana 35 weight?

It's more weight then that, the D 60 is 264, ford 9" is 194, and 8.8 is
170, so stepping down like that, I would expect the D 60 to be double the
wweight of the D 35.
