dana 300 twin stick - question

After I get the starting problem fixed....see my other thread... I will be
going wheelin. I just replaced my tranny and added a twin stick to the dana
300. I also removed the "pills" from the shift levers and now I can switch
low range into each axle seperately. My question is what is the shift
pattern with my new setup? I found this page:
http://www.sierrajeep.com/shift.htm but I thought I had 4 shift points on
each stick. the single stick had 4H, 4L, N, 2H. What am I missing?

Re: dana 300 twin stick - question

Two sticks, Left and Right.

Use the right stick to select 2WD and 4WD. Push it forward for 4WD, pull it
back for 2WD. Put it in the center for N.

Use the left stick for HI and LO range. Pull it back for HI, push it forward
for LO.

To get 2LO, pull the right stick back and push the left stick forward. To
get 4LO, push the left stick forward then push the right stick forward. You
also have the option of 2LO, FWD. To get here, once you get into 4LO, pull
the left stick back again. The front axle will be engaged in LO range. The
left stick aslo has an N position between the other two choices. When you
want N from the tcase, as in flat towing, you have to set both sticks to the
N position.

SET BOTH STICKS TO NEUTRAL -pull them all of the way back, then set them
forward one click
(These are the normal features of the tcase)
Pull the left stick and the right stick back to find 2HI
Pull the left stick back and push the right stick forward to find 4HI
Push the left stick and the right stick forward to find 4LO

(These are the extended features of the TwinStick)
Push the left stick forward and pull the right stick back to find 2LO, RWD
Push the left stick and the right stick forward, then pull the left stick
back to find 2LO, FWD

I have found that I frequently have to make my tcase selections with the
transmission in gear, and I have to work the clutch a bit to get the tcase
to cooperate.

I use 2LO, RWD much more than I use 2LO, FWD, and there are certainly times
when one or the other is better than 4LO. I takes a bit of getting used to
to work the TwinStick so that it looks to the casual observer (or your wife)
like you actually know what you are doing.

Now that I have told you all about it from memory, my memory says that the
left stick might only have two positions, if so then N will only exist for
the right stick. If you think about how the single stick moves, then both of
the TwinSticks should have an N position.

Re: dana 300 twin stick - question

There is a shift pattern template on the first page of this:
http://7slotgrille.com/tech/twin/install.pdf
You can copy the graphic, paste into Word (or something), print it out and
then attach it to your dash.
