Dana 300 seals
 

How hard is it to rebuild a dana 300? I would like to replace the seals to
stop it from leaking while I have it out. Can this be done under a shade
tree with normal tools? Where is the best place to get the rebuild parts?

A bearing press is required. I put the 4:1 in my 300 (which included a
re-build). Not too bad, they are relatively simple. Where does it leak?
May be just input/output seal.

A bearing press is required. I put the 4:1 in my 300 (which included a
re-build). Not too bad, they are relatively simple. Where does it leak?
May be just input/output seal.

The only issue is those big nuts on the yokes. They are a real pain to
get off and back on tight. I didn't want the bother, so I just took my
dana 300 to the shop and for $40.00 I think it was, they changed both
the input and output seals including parts.

I had a hard time finding the shift fork seals at dealers and tranny
shops until I just asked the local parts store and he got them in a
couple days.

Oh, mine was working ok so I didn't need to open anything. It is
amazing how nice it shifts with clean greased linkages.

I have access to a press, I can't tell for sure where it's leaking, but I
think its in the front, near the front drive shaft.
