Dana 20 to Dana 300 swap in a CJ-7
Group,
Has anyone done this? I know I will have to get a different adapter to mate the 300 to the GM TH350 auto, but what about the driveshafts? Will I have to deal with changing the length? What else? I am doing this not because the Dana 20 is bad or weak, but because the 300 has a 2.62:1 low range, and I can probably do this for less $ than going to teralow gears. I can go to a twin stick as well. Thanks, RR |

I bought it already converted, but I would imagine that it came with a 6 /
manual, and the other owner kept the D20. "L.W. I don't believe the Dana 20 was used in the seven:

Re: Dana 20 to Dana 300 swap in a CJ-7
Bill,
I am not sure as well. It is a 76 CJ-7 though, and think it was, but I could be wrong. In any event, it has a low range ratio that could be lower for my use, and the 300 may be my best way out of the problem without spending 4 digit dollars. RR "L.W. Re: Dana 20 to Dana 300 swap in a CJ-7
My '76 CJ-7 came with the following.
258cid 6 cyl, T-150 3 spd, Dana20 Transfer case, Dana30 frt & AMC20 rear. I swapped in the T176 4 spd w/Dana300. It was a direct fit but needed a new front driveshaft. I think the rear driveshaft was okay (been many years since). o_o_o_o Best Regards, /| ,[_____], Jim, WP3JQ |¯¯¯L --O|||||||O- ()_)¯()_) ¯¯¯¯¯ )_) EM60qk 30.447439N 086.628959W |
