CPS on Grand Cherokee?
 

Hi All,
The old '93 Grand Cherokee started missing badly a few weeks ago. I
remembered reading here about the Crankshaft Position Sensor causing some
similar problems and that you might unplug it and get the car home. Well,
I've unplugged it a few times since then and the car runs okay for awhile.
I've been putting off that 4 hour, blue-aired, skinned knuckle job for too
long. Now when I unplug it and plug it back together, it works for only a
few minutes.
Can I be confident that the problem is the CPS and not something else I've
been resetting by unplugging it and plugging it back in?
I'll call the dealer in the morning to get a new one if if you guys think
so.

?unplug? The engine shouldn't even run without the Crankshaft Postion Sensor.

Have you pulled the codes?

Missing can be all sorts of things including the CPS but not limited to
plugs, wires, coil, low battery voltage, loose injector connections, etc.

If you do replace the CPS, make sure you get the correct one.
There are two potential units for the 93.

Also check with http://www.chryslerpartsdirect.com/ for price.
They will give you the "best dealer price", expect to pay more
from a local dealer.

You should clean it while it was apart. Now it sounds like you have
worn out the scratch area. One fix is to remove the plug from the
circuit and solder the wires together.

You should clean it while it was apart. Now it sounds like you have
worn out the scratch area. One fix is to remove the plug from the
circuit and solder the wires together.
