Cause I could. I also have a large thick piece of sheet aluminum to make
a skid plate out of.

Umm... "because you could" doesn't seem to have happened yet....
;-)

Do you run places that high center you a lot? My 86 CJ7 has a massive
skid plate under the t-case and one under the oil pan. If I can clear
the oil pan and front axle I never hit the center. Well, in 8 years or
so of owning it, the skid plate still has no dings.

It 'does' have some slide marks from sliding over snow banks and mud
berms when it does it's job. If it were up higher, then the front of my
gas tank would be open for a hit or a hook and if it is above the frame
rails, well I can see some major hooking about to happen there too.
