CJ7 Rear Drum Issue
 

I just recently installed new rear brake shoes. I replaced all of the
hardware at the same time. When I was doing the brakes I noticed the
emergency brake cables had been disconnected.

Ran the jeep for a week all was well. Put on the new emergency brake
cables and now the driver side keeps losing the adjusting screw. I
made sure all springs were intact and adjusted the screw. After using
the emergency brakes, I guess it loosens up and the screw starts
bouncing around inside the brake.

Suggestions?

I would guess you have put the star wheel adjusters in the wrong side.
There is a left wheel adjuster and a right wheel one.

If you have them switched, they loosen off instead of tightening down.

I was 'really' careful when I did mine the last time and still ended up
with them switched. (my kid looking at them had 'nothing' to do with
it) ;-)

If your adjusters are in correctly, then you haven't set them up
properly. They have to be manually set the first time so the automatic
cable adjuster will work. If they are screwed in all the way, the cable
won't grab when you hit the brakes in reverse to auto adjust so the star
wheel can just fall out.

One other thing is the cable for the e-brake. You want that cable to be
physically loose when the e-brake is off otherwise the brakes use the
cable as the 'adjuster' point instead of the star wheel.
