CJ hood and under hood question..

CJ hood and under hood question..
What are the curves bent into the underside of the hood on my CJ5 for? I
noticed the rail that runs just inside the hood, on the fenders, also has
radiuses bent intothem also.. Are these left overs from some military use?
Just kind of made me wonder

Crush zone. Keep you from pulling the fender and hood out of your
