Car alarm and installation help 96 XJ
I'm looking for some help and recommendations regarding car alarms and
installations. Since most of the shops in my area(Philly, PA) want between $200-$500 to install a unit I'm thinking about doing it myself. I have a background in electronics, but not car electrical systems. Hoping that the two are similar I think I'm up to the task. Could anyone recommend a simple alarm/remote start/keyless entry system that I could install and not have to purchase additional relays? I don't want to spend more than 160. I saw this unit on ebay but the description does not mention relays for the keyless entry. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=14934 Any links that you may be able to provide are appreciated. I don't want to spend more than 160. The difficult part in installing a vehicle alarm is getting to the >>correct<< wires. The rest is fairly academic. Take for example the Clifford in my ZJ. It has tie-ins to the stock alarm, each window circuit, the ignition circuit, neutral safety switch, and fuel pump, sensors, etc. About a days worth of work done over the weekend at the installers. Prior to that we took about 2 days to read vehicle schematics, identify, and test each wire to make sure we didn't cut something bad or splice into the airbag. :O (I worked with the installer since this was the first time that alarm was installed in a ZJ) Clifford got a gunnipig, I got a some promo stuff. Figure a high end alarm installed by a shop could take four or more hours. Also consider that most higher end alarms have great warrantee as long as they are dealer installed. Install them yourself and the warrantee usually shrinks to 30 days. If your going to do it yourself, make sure you have the schematic for your XJ or that the alarm makers website has instructions for your model year. I'm not current on alarms, so my only advice is to shop capability and warrantee. A site you can use to see one of the higer end system. http://www.carwondersinc.com/alarms.htm -- -- DougW -- 93 ZJ 4.0 http://members.cox.net/wilsond HESCO Supercharger - 300W IASCA Stereo - Edelbrock IAS Shocks Gibson Exhaust - rear DCpower - custom gauge install - Stillen Rotors |

Re: Car alarm and installation help 96 XJ
I recently installed a bulldog keyless entry with a starter disable
function at pep boys for 39.95 It took 3 hours to install after i bought the optional relay #773 for the starter kill. Was pretty easy after i found the wiring plug at the passenger door for all(two wires) to be cut and spliced. the starter kill relay was easy as i just cut into the under dash wire to the starter solenoid from the ignition key. relay was another 7.00 works great and you cannot start the truck unless you unlock with the remote buttons john review at www.bulldogsecurity.com "Mad Izms" <madizms@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:ba5a793e.0403031458.53ec9308@posting.google.c om... > I'm looking for some help and recommendations regarding car alarms and > installations.
