camp jeep in VA

Everything that I have seen and heard is that it is in the Blue Ridge
Mountains. Does anyone know where that is and what the area is like? My
wife and I are thinking of going, and were wondering how close it is to
Chesapeake? (she's always wanted to go there..swimming ponies to an island,
or something like that)

The Blue Ridge Mountains are pure God's country! 500--4000' elevation in a few
miles; Skyline Drive, Blue Ridge Parkway, near Monticello, much other history,
especially War of Northern Aggression (some say Civil War, which seems
oxymoronic)

Your wife is thinking of Chincoteague, (Book: Misty of Chincoteague) ponies
and all. Sale of those little hosses raises money for the local fire
department. If you have time, see Tangier Island in the middle of the
Chesapeake Bay--(don't bother with the city of Chesapeake (no offense, guys))

Seriously, it is beautiful country--my dad was from Winona, MN, right across
the river (we say rivah) from WI, settled in Charlottesville in '54 (my 5th
birthday, to be exact) to teach at UVa., and died happy. I've been to WI and
liked it; you'll like VA!

Happy to provide any other pointers, etc.

I grew up in Chesapeake and did a lot of hiking/camping in the Blue Ridge
mountains. Man, now that I'm 3000+ miles from there I wish I could take my
Jeep back through that country...
