There was severe and heavy rainfall in the area at the time. I'm sure
visibility had a major effect.

There's a very steep descent along Ingram creek with some serious ledges
that runs to the spot where they went off. You should be crawling right at
the spot of the turn and there's a generous amount of room (compared to
what's coming further on) to do a 3 point turn and head down the trails,
over the creek and on to the next switchback, which is very tight and
narrow. The only thought I had is that they either were panicked and simply
lost it, or tried to make the turn in one pass, rather than backing up. I
hadn't thought about the possibility they may have unbelted to try and bail
out.
