BBD carb
My BBD started leaking down a few weeks ago; runs really rich at idle,
lots of run on, need to crank for 45 seconds for a cold start. I took the top off after driving it, floats were hanging down within an hour. I presume that it's leaking through the ball check valve on the accelerator pump. I'll do a rebuild kit tomorrow but anyone give me an idea what I should inspect most carefully? |
Re: BBD carb
Hi Roy,
Make sure the float's not hanging on the side, while the carburetor is off, and dry. Also shake the float by it's self to make sure gasoline hasn't seeped inside, sometimes the hole is so small you have to hold a lighter under it to watch it sweat. And of course make sure the floats bottom stop is good, usually the float level is correct when it's parallel with the bowl's top when being check while being held upside-down. Re: BBD carb
Why would the float and needle valve have anything to do with gas
draining out of the carb? L.W.(ßill) ------ III wrote: > Hi Roy, > Make sure the float's not hanging on the side, while the carburetor > is off, and dry. Re: BBD carb
I thought I understood the float was sticking or not holding the
needle valve pressure and was flooding. Anyway, I can imagine half a dozen scenarios, but without seeing it, it would be like examining teeth over the phone. But they all would be fixed with a new kit and careful setting of adjustments. And making sure the float is good, a common failure.
