AX5 problems.....
I have an ax5 manual trans in my 94 YJ, and it likes to spill fluid up
through the shifter boot and on to the floor of the jeep. so I tore it apart and found the problem. in the shifter housing is a hard rubber ring that the ball of the shifter rests and pivots on. the ring has a piece missing out of it, and needs to be replaced. (yes I found the missing piece after I drained the fluid). but my problem is I cant find this bushing anywhere, and the dealership says I have to buy the entire shift housing plate assy. for 300.00 or so dollars. and the parts stores don't and carry them. so can anyone tell me where to buy one of these seals/bushings, or am I really screwed and have to purchase the whole assy.? |
Re: AX5 problems.....
Probably, a part that would be included with the shift cup bushing:

Re: AX5 problems.....
One option is to take the pieces of bushing that you have and match them to
an off-the-shelf O-ring. I have found that as a general rule, places like Ace Hardware or True Value Hardware franchises carry a more extensive line of O-rings than the big-box chain stores like Lowes or Home Depot. I found the snap ring I needed to get 5th gear back, as well as the gaskets and seals I needed to replace to get to the snap ring at a manual tranny shop.
