Anyone seen my marbles?
Lost my marbles, I'm thinking of stroking out the ZJ to a
4.7 with the Hesco kit $2,270 and using a local shop in Norman Oklahoma (Kennard Automotive). They have done other work and have a highly recommended engine mechanic. And yes, I'll be keeping the supercharger too. :D Gonna definitly need larger injectors but might need new ones anyway. At any rate I'm going to have them do a leak and compression check on the engine. I think I might have toasted an exhaust valve and that's the reason the engine is running rough. Probably a cascade from a bad injector. (All stuff I can't check myself) :( ...the hose on my compression checker cracked.. Anyhoo, it's a far sight cheaper to go this way then to pony up the bucks for a new Jeep and then fork over mucho higher insurance and tag. Actually the whole exercise will pay itself back in about two years. As a plus, with increased power I can step up in tire size and start converting the mostly street ZJ into something that can provide more fun factor on future off-road trips. (or put some phat spinner rimz on it and hang with da homies) -- DougW |
Re: Anyone seen my marbles?
That's a scary thought, too lean and you'll melt a piston in
seconds of the first full throttle. I'd surely find the injectors first. Check with your pump manufacture. Or maybe really go fast with a Holley, were you know fuel mixture remains the same, within six percent. I do like your spinners, though: http://www.----------.com/dougsJeep.htm God Bless America, ßill O|||||||O mailto:-------------------- DougW wrote: > > Lost my marbles, I'm thinking of stroking out the ZJ to a > 4.7 with the Hesco kit $2,270 and using a local shop in > Norman Oklahoma (Kennard Automotive). With larger injectors that should be ok and I may have to build a safety system. Tap the O2 sensor for an internal gauge and add a knock sensor along with a electronic sending fuel pressure gauge. I'll just sister it with the vac/boost gauge and mount the knock sensor light in the base. http://members.cox.net/wilsond/gauge.html Last time I was out at a car show (just attending) there were a whole lot of folks asking where I got that. :) My answer is simple... ACE Hardware. I've read on using the stock O2 sensor and an O-Scope to see what's going on. Problem is getting it to synch up and the fact it gets HOT under there. Figure the shop has an engine analyzer that can do what I'm trying to do without burning myself (again). -- DougW |

Re: Anyone seen my marbles?
not sure how you control your current injectors but a cheap option thats as
close to a standalone as you can get is the megasquirt unit. it can be made to handle extra injectors (onset at boost) or larger ones, or secondaries, in conjunction with oem's, etc... and can also be modded to control spark timing handles most of the functions of LINK-II or other 1000.00 standalones, for about 200 plus a handful of cheap GM sensors. its very homegrown and DIY, so it should suit a jeep perfectly ;) www.msefi.com -Steve 98 TJ |
