Actual diameters on BFG tires?
Why do the actual size {OD} always run smaller than listed? I just
got BFG 30x9.5" A/T KO's for my tj. They're supposed to have an OD of 29.5". I had the stock GSA 30" and ran 'em to till they were done. Well these BFG's look a bit smaller to me than the GSAs. I'm not sure how to check this correctly, but I took a tape measure from the concrete up to the top edge of tire, and it's well under 29" at the edge. Just about 28.5"! Not really what I was going for. I have them at 29 PSI. I went with the 30's over the 31's, because I wanted the narrower 9.5" width. Is it normal for them to vary this much? Hell, I thought I was buying 30" tires! I like the tires A LOT more than the stock ones, but I'm thinking I want the 31's after this. Only problem is dealer won't return them even after one day. |
Re: Actual diameters on BFG tires?
You will get a more accurate measurement running the tape from the front
to the back of the tire. Or you could jack it up and measure from the top to the bottom. You measured the compressed part of the tire. Add 20 lb more in air and your tire will seem to get taller.
